American Life

American Life is considered by some to be one of Madonna's riskiest albums both artistically and commercially. Songs on the album are a mix of acoustic and techno music. The lyrics are about her coming to terms with her fame, her own life, and the illusion fame and fortune give you, and that love, over matter, is what brings fulfilment. Mirwais Ahmadzaï (who produced her 2000 hit album Music) came back on board to produce it.

Music

After the international success of 1998s Ray of Light, Madonna followed it up with 2000s Music, which has gone on to sell 13 million copies worldwide. (Before the album was released, Madonna recorded a statement to her fans: "Hey Mr. DJ, put a record on…Hi, it's Madonna. You've probably been hearing about my new record "Music" for a while. Well, I just wanted to make sure you knew that the single is gonna drop very soon. I worked on it with a French guy named Mirwais, and he is the shit.

Ray Of Light

Ray of Light is the seventh studio album and thirteenth recording by American pop singer Madonna. It was released by Warner Bros. Records on March 2, 1998, across Europe. The album was primarily produced by Madonna and William Orbit, and also by Madonna and previous collaborator Patrick Leonard. Upon its debut, critical reception was generally positive, with critics complimenting the album's blend of pop and electronic music.[1] Ray of Light became one of Madonna's most commercially-successful releases, and reached number one in the United Kingdom, where it was certified six times platinum.

Evita

Evita, the soundtrack to the 1996 Motion Picture was released in two different formats; A 2-disc double album entitled "Evita - The Motion Picture Music Soundtrack" featured all the tracks from the film and a second release "Evita - Music From The Motion Picture"' contained a selection of highlights from the soundtrack. The 1-disc format has different cover artwork. This was the third soundtrack release by Madonna, it also featured the vocal talents of Antonio Banderas, Jonathan Pryce and Jimmy Nail.

Something To Remember

Bedtime Stories had already proven that Madonna had calmed down a bit after the raunchy Erotica period. With the release of Something to Remember she took it a step further and used her new-found serenity to release a collection of her best ballads. Several of the songs selected for Something to Remember came from movie soundtracks and some had not appeared on a Madonna album before.

Bedtime Stories

The purpose of the album was to highlight a softer side to Madonna's character, in contrast to the more outrageous, sexual persona from her previous album, Erotica. In many ways, Madonna sought to repair some of the damage she had done to her public image through this album.

Erotica

Erotica is a concept album about sexuality and relationships. Each track explores a different facet of sexuality, usually involving sexual relationships. Lyrically, the album does not tie sex and sexual relationships with the traditional ideals of romance. A dance record by all accounts, the album showcases hip hop- and jazz-affected club production from co-producers Shep Pettibone and André Betts. It is interesting to note that the song "In This Life" is based on George Gershwin's Prelude No. 2.

I'm Breathless

There are four songs from the film on the album, "Sooner or Later", "More", "What Can You Lose?", and "Now I'm Following You", although the latter song appears here in a version different from the one in the film (the film version of "Now I'm Following You" was performed not by Madonna, but by the song's composer, Andy Paley).

Who's That Girl

Song information

The single was a huge success all around the world and effortlessly made it to the number one spot in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and many others. The song was nominated for "Best Song From A Motion Picture" at the 1987 Grammy Awards and "Best Original Song" at the 1988 Golden Globe Awards. "Who's That Girl" is absent from Madonna's first greatest hits compilation, The Immaculate Collection.

Madonna/The First Album

After the mildly successful release of her first two singles: "Everybody" and "Burning Up," Sire greenlit production of Madonna's first album. Though New York DJ Mark Kamins had discovered Madonna and produced "Everybody," she decided to work with Warner-suggested producer Reggie Lucas for the bulk of the album. After production on the album began, Madonna and Lucas clashed, as they each had different ideas of how they wanted the final product to sound. When the album was completed, a dissatisfied Madonna called upon her friend producer John "Jellybean" Benitez to retool it.
